Lukáš Novotný was born in Jeseník, where he graduated from the School of Higher School in 1989. He continued his cello studies in Ostrava first at the Conservatory and then at the University of Ostrava as a student of Prof. Jan Hališka. From 1996 to 1998 he completed an internship in Luzerno, Switzerland with Prof. Mark Jerie.

Lukáš Novotný is a member of the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra ostrava and chamber orchestra Camerata Janáček, he collaborated with Věra Špinarová.

As a teacher he works at music schools in Havířov.
